The figures released from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has indicated that the number of electric cars on the UK roads has now reached 100,000. Quite a milestone! Many factors are considered to have played a part in this growth, such as government incentives to cut ownership costs and the aforementioned network of fast charging points - of which 170 units were installed by Ecotricity.

Dale Vince, the founder of Ecotricity stated "In the past 12 months we've gone from 8 hours to charge a car to 20 minutes." and added "All of this points to a coming revolution in how we get around, they are super cheap to run, totally clean especially if you run them on renewable energy, they just are the future of personal transport."

The charging networks popularity has certainly shown in the figures, as use of the chargers has tripled compared to the previous 3 month period. The cherry on top of the cake? The service will be free of charge to all electric car users.
Tesla is keen to help build the current infrastructure in the UK, as it stands only 4 superchargers in the UK belong to Tesla. Not for long though, as the brand has hinted a possibility of more being added at some point in the near future.
