Exciting Development Made In Electric Car Progress

If you've been keeping up to date with any electric car market news, then you might have heard of the newest development which may just change everything. A new form of disruptive carbon battery is currently being developed by Power Japan and Kyushu University, and it may just be the answer electric car owners have been waiting for all this time. As well as being cheap to produce, safe and environmentally friendly, it’s said that the battery will massively improve the range and charging times of all electric car models.

This would mean instead of a 4 hour charging time for the Nissan Leaf, users would have to wait just 12 minutes. For a high end Tesla model (with a 85kWh battery) the time taken for a full charge weighs in at a minor 42 minutes.

The company behind the development, Power Japan, has stated that materials used to produce the battery, has energy density equal to the lithium-ion, and the manufacturing costs are equal or lower. Carbon is widely available and is the only active ingredient in the new proposed device.

Whereas lithium ions batteries life have around about 1000 charge cycles, the carbon models have a long lifetime of 3000 cycles. This would mean over 3 times the current average life cycle, and an astronomical improvement the all round reliability of any vehicles.

This is an exciting development and definitely worth keeping an eye on the progress being made. If you are thinking about investing in an electric car then hopefully this could be a deciding factor.
