Most Instagrammable places for your trip to Edinburgh

For those of you who like to take a camera with you on your travels, there aren't many more picturesque cities than Edinburgh.

The stunning views, historic sites and architecture all across the city makes finding a worthy picture an easy task.

On your travels around Edinburgh, there are plenty of sites you should stop off at for an Instagram picture, but if you’re looking for something particularly quirky and unusual to fill your feed with, take a look at these locations.

National Museum of Scotland

As well as having plenty of worthy shots inside, head up the museum’s secret roof terrace for a stunning view of the Edinburgh skyline – including iconic landmarks like Arthur’s Seat, Calton Hill and Edinburgh Castle. If you’re wanting that perfect shot of Edinburgh Castle, this is the place to go!

Victoria Street, Grassmarket

Grassmarket, at the base of the Edinburgh Castle cliff, gives you a contrast of oldie-worlde buildings in front of the dramatic city skyline. Just off Grassmarket is one of the most colourful streets in Edinburgh, Victoria Street. With a bustling street full of quaint shops and cafés, there’s the opportunity for some people-shots, too!

Arthur’s Seat

Arthur’s Seat is the best place to escape the hustle and bustle of the Edinburgh centre. The site is an extinct volcano located in Holyrood Park – yes, a volcano right next to the city centre.

Start your adventure in Holyrood Park and walk your way up, it shouldn’t take more than an hour to reach the peak and trust us, it’s worth it.

Carlton Hill

Possibly the most famous and well-known picture spots in Edinburgh, Carlton Hill. This location is so popular that there will always be a crowd vying for the best shot.

To avoid this and to get an even better picture, we recommend getting there for sunrise or sunset to get the golden light.

Circus lane

Circus Lane in Stockbridge is simply lovely and is one of the most picturesque streets in Edinburgh. You’ll wish you brought your camera with you when you wander down this street. The small cobbled lane is lined with busting flowers and greenery from the Georgian houses and apartments. Get the right angle and you’ll be able to get St Stephen’s cathedral in your shot.
