Best places to rent a car in the UK

A holiday or business trip is rarely based on whether a rental car is needed or if it is a good place to drive. However, there are some places in the UK where a rental car can be needed more than others and routes that can be hard to resist for driving enthusiasts.

Best scenic drives in the UK

Some of our favourite driving experiences in the UK include:

Loch Lomond

Many renters from our Glasgow branch use the opportunity to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, just half an hour away from Glasgow. A drive west from Loch Lomond will take you through the National Park and through the most beautiful countryside scenery. The route is a mixture of lochs and hills.

The Peak District

A drive around the Peak District is the perfect way to explore the stately homes, idyllic towns and villages, and break taking scenery. Often named as the most impressive area for driving, the Peak District has a vast landscape for you to explore. You will go through pretty villages and towns including Castleton, Matlock, Winster and Longnor. Green Motion has three branches within close distance of the Peak District: Manchester, East Midlands Airport and Leicester.

Cheltenham to Stratford-upon-Avon

You can start on either side for this one. Stratford-upon-Avon is closer to our Birmingham branches whilst Cheltenham is close to our Bristol one. The 30-mile route takes you through Cotswolds woodland, colourful meadows and picturesque villages. If you’re lucky, and you get clear skies, you’ll be able to see the Black Mountains in Wales as you climb Cleeve Hill in Cheltenham.

Manchester car hire

Manchester is a city filled with so many things to do but it is also in a prime location for day trips that venture out of the city. Located between two national parks, the Lake District and the Peak District, it’s easy to escape the brick and mortar of the city to immerse yourself in nature and breath-taking landscapes. Other days trips from Manchester include a sunny day on the beach in Southport and Liverpool to experience all things The Beatles.

London car hire

As the nation’s capital, London is by far the biggest tourist destination in the UK. Whether your trip is for leisure or business, the majority of trips in the UK revolve around London. The city is a large place that can mean getting from place to place can be a difficult task.

By hiring a car, it makes freedom a bit easier and means exploring surrounding areas is possible, too. The south coast is a popular escape for locals and a short drive will take you to the seaside resort of Brighton.

Thankfully, Green Motion has car rental options at all of London’s airports: London Luton Airport, Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Stansted Airport and London City Airport.
