China Needs Electric Cars

China is infamous for its air pollution, so much so that tourists who visit often take photos over the cities ever expanding smog. However, China is now proactively looking to tackle its air waste, and minimise the amount of pollution being produced by the country. As well as recently passing a new environmental law to protect the citizens and punish polluters for their crimes, it also seems that Chinese government are trying to persuade citizens and consumers, to start considering switching to a more eco friendly way to get around the city, with none other than an electric car.

At the Bejing Auto show earlier this month, it was reported that the crowd cheered after it was announced that the Denza electric car would sell for RMB 369,000, which is the equivalent of £35,000. This may seem a bit on the pricey side, however in China, Denza’s main competitor Telsa retails at nearly double that.

The Chinese government is looking to push electric cars on the public, by subsidising any buyers up to amount of RMB 120,000 which is nearly a third of the cost.

Despite these steps, China still seems hesitant to make the jump, and the statistics aren't looking too good, as less than 7000 electric and hybrid vehicles were sold in 2014. These recent developments may just be exactly what the city needs to move forward and reduce its current waste output rates. Unfortunately, that is only made possible if the citizens make the necessary steps to aid the government and back its current plans to become a greener country.
