Liverpool is a wonderful city filled with a rich mix of attractions and sites to keep you busy. But what should you do once you’ve visited the Beatles attractions, explored the Royal Albert Dock, watched a gig at the Cavern Club, made your way around the museums and embraced the historic sports stadiums?

The good news for you is that there are plenty of day trips from the city that open the door to a load of new exciting happenings!

Here are some day trip ideas from Liverpool that are bound to keep you busy:

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

As soon as the sun makes an appearance, we Brits love a trip to the seaside. Thankfully, Liverpool is perfectly position for a trip to the beach when the sun is shining.

Closest to Liverpool are Crosby and Formby, two coastal villages that are popular with locals in the summer.

On the beach in Crosby, you will find Anthony Gormley’s famous ‘Another Place’ sculpture whilst Formby is a protected area owned by National Trust that is ideal long walks on nature trails and sunbathing on the sandy beach.

Alternatively, the famous seaside resort Blackpool is around an hour’s drive from Liverpool. And we all know how nostalgic and fun a trip to Blackpool is!

City to City

If you enjoy city breaks but think you’ve exhausted your options in Liverpool, you’ll be pleased to hear that Manchester is only down the road! Just 30 miles away, a day trip to Manchester from Liverpool is easily accessible and means you have a city full of new sites to explore.

There’s plenty to keep you occupied in Manchester for a day and it’s worth ticking Manchester off your list whilst you’re in Liverpool if you’re travelling from afar.

Get back to nature

With so much natural beauty surrounding Liverpool, it’s hard to complete this list without mentioning the must-see national parks. And if you’ve been working your way around Liverpool’s city centre for a few days, a tranquil retreat to the great outdoors might be timely.

For those of you who like breath-taking views, challenging hikes and traditional English villages, Liverpool is suitably located within close proximity of the Peak District, Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

These are all at least over an hour’s drive away. But trust us, they are well worth the trip!

Charming Chester

Only 40 minutes away across the River Mersey is Chester. And if you like the olde worlde characteristics of York then you’ll love Chester!

Chester has a Tudor-and-Victorian heart which is surrounded by mostly complete Roman-era walls. Within the walls, you’ll find Britain’s oldest racecourse, Britain’s largest Roman Amphitheatre and a 1000-year-old Cathedral.

Spending the day walking around Chester you’ll quickly understand why it is undeniably one of Britain's prettiest centres.
