Green Motion become first UK based carbon neutral rental company

We are pleased to announce that we have begun a new project that offsets our total carbon emissions! The decision makes us the first rental company to become carbon neutral in the country.

Based on an assessment of the carbon emissions from our fleet of 2,700 vehicles (averaging 2,000 miles per month each) we will pay close to £40,000 per year to offset on-road emissions. As well as on-road emissions, we will also contribute the cost of carbon used in our UK branches and head office.

Where will the money go?

Our unavoidable carbon emissions will be offset to the Florestal Santa Maria project, a FSM-REDD project that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by stopping deforestation in the Amazon rainforest, Brazil.

The Amazon is known for its amazing biodiversity; containing 10% of all species. The project will help to uphold the endangered species that rely on the Amazon rainforest it for their survival.

We will be committing to the costs but we have also opened the chance to donate to our customers, too. We already provide low CO2 emission vehicles (the lowest of any like-for-like competitor in the UK) but this new Carbon Neutral Donation project gives our customers the chance to completely offset their CO2 footprint when renting a vehicle from any of our UK branches.
