RAC's New Charging Scheme

RAC's New Charging Scheme

As the electric car market is steadily gaining popularity, the automobile industry is having to change and adjust it’s practices to accommodate for users. Electric car consumers now no longer need to worry about running out of power mid way through a journey, as the RAC has launched its first mobile electric charging system.

The system is still currently in trials, and Birmingham is the first city to be selected for official trailing. The charging system will fully charge a car in around 4 hours, and for those in a hurry, a half an hour charge at one of RACS portable charging systems will give the users an extra 15 miles worth of juice.

A spokesperson for the RAC made a statement "As the electric vehicle market develops, the need for a mobile transportable energy source is becoming more important, not only to reduce ‘range anxiety’, but also to provide temporary cost-effective power for electric cars."

Sales of electric cars have been taking 2014 by storm, and the UK in 2014 alone has seen a staggering 265 % growth. With all these new users, it's no wonder RAC have brought in new methods to accommodate those using alternative transport methods.

As it stands, the UK has just over 5,000 charging points up and down the country, however, only a small percentage of these points are fast charging. Fast charging points can completely fill a battery within around 20 minutes. By adding additional fast charging stations up and down the country, more drivers could look into making the switch.
