FAQ

Most of the answers can be find within Green Motion T&C and Rental agreement T&C at the rental Station (Sample). We strongly recommended to read through both T&Cs. However, if it does not answer your question or you would like to speak to us directly, please feel free to contact us by phone or by email, you can find our contact information above on the left.

What is Excesses and Deposit/Pre-authorisation?

Excess is the amount of liability agreed between customer and Green Motion branches. By signing the rental agreement, customer accepted and accountable for the liability. At the same time, Green Motion branches bear the most of the risk to reduce the liability and provide a reasonable excess amount towards customer. Due to the risk element and insurance policy, Excesses amount might subjected to Vehicle type, driver's age, driving licenses type, driver's profession, payment methods and others.

We offer the opportunity to reduce customer's excess by purchasing one of our excess reduction packages. Each package provides different benefits ranging from reduction in excess to zero excess. Please ask at the rental counter for more information.

A pre-authorisation is the method by which a deposit amount is ring-fenced rather than transacted as a sale. The monies must be available in the account but will not leave it. The amount will not be available to the account holder until released by their bank. The period until the funds are released is usually between 5 and 15 days but can be longer depending on the type of card and country of issue.

All credit cards will be subject to and must pass CHIP and PIN verification, cards without this facility will not be accepted. Unembossed cards and cards marked Electronic use are not accepted for pre-authorisation. Cards must be in the main driver’s name. Cash deposits/pre-authorisations are not accepted. Cheques are not acceptable. Pre-paid cards are not accepted, please check with your renting branch at the point of booking.

What payment method is accepted?

In most cases, each Green Motion location will accept most major credit cards including Visa and MasterCard and in some cases, American Express may be accepted.

In relation to debit cards (Visa), these are typically accepted for the payment of rentals but unfortunately we cannot secure a deposit / pre-authorisation using a debit card and as such require a valid credit card for the pre-authorisation of the deposit. In addition we are unable to accept cash either for the payment of the rental or for the security deposit.

We would ask you to note that in the event that we are unable to guarantee funds relating to the security deposit on your credit card we will be unable to rent a vehicle to you.

What is the Minimum/Maximum age to rent from Green Motion?

Drivers aged 21 to 24 years old can only drive manual vehicles up to and including 1G for example a manual Peugeot 308 5 door hatch. Drivers aged 21 to 24 cannot drive any large or estate vehicles. Other limitations may apply, please contact the rental branch at the time of booking for more detail. They must have a minimum of two years driving experience. For young drivers a daily surcharge of £38.50 per day applies. *Young drivers may be subject to a different pre-authorisation amount, please check with the renting branch prior to collection. The minimum driver age for all other groups is 25 years old with two years driving experience. Driving licence entitlement (for example D1 category on UK licence) must also be provided. The standard maximum age for insurance purposes is 80yrs. Please check with the branch prior to booking

Can I Collect or return vehicle outside office hours?

You are not authorised to collect or return your rental vehicle outside office hours unless prior agreement has been made noting that in the event that agreement has been authorised, it is subject to strict terms and conditions. Typically, return of the rental vehicle outside of rental hours is not authorised.

We strongly recommend to keep us notified in events of any changes to your collection and return, we can provide assistant and advise to resolve the situation for you.

Can I make amendments to my booking or Cancel my booking?

If your reservation was made through Greenmotion website please contact our reservations team on [email protected] for amendment and cancellation . However, there is no guarantee that we will be able to amend or cancel (Please refer to Cancellation Policy within Green Motion T&C) your booking but we will try our best to help.

If your reservation was made through third party platforms (Other than greenmotion website, for example other websites, booking agent..), any amendment or cancellation you will need to consult the platform directly. However, you are welcome to seek advice from us via call or email we will try our best to help.

How long do I wait for the release of a deposit / pre-authorisation?

Green Motion Branches does not hold the pre-authorisation / deposit in our bank accounts. The pre-authorisation is a automatic bank process that block of the agreed amount held against the credit card presented by the issuing bank. The time taken by the issuing bank to release the pre-authorisation on the credit card varies immensely dependent on the bank and the country of issue. Typically, most pre-authorisations / deposits are released within 5 – 14 days from the return of the rental car.

In the event that you feel a pre-authorisation has not been released with the prescribed time frame it will be necessary for you to make direct contact with the issuing bank as Green Motion Branches has no jurisdiction in this matter. However, you are welcome to contact us for advises.

What do I do if I have a complaint?

Green Motion takes customer service extremely seriously and we want you to get the best out of your car hire experience. In the event of our service has proven unsatisfactory, in the first instance you can contact our location directly at [email protected].
