Excess is the amount of liability agreed between customer and Green Motion branches. By signing the rental agreement, customer accepts and is made accountable for the liability. At the same time, Green Motion branches bear the most of the risk to reduce the liability and provide a reasonable excess amount towards customer. Due to the risk element and insurance policy, excess amount might be subjected to a vehicle type, driver's age, driving license type, driver's profession, payment method and others.
We offer the opportunity to reduce customer's excess by purchasing one of our excess reduction packages. Each package provides different benefits ranging from reduction in excess to zero excess. Please ask at the rental counter for more information.
A pre-authorisation is the method by which a deposit amount is ring-fenced rather than transacted as a sale. The funds must be available in the account but will not leave it. The amount will not be available to the account holder until released by their bank. The period until the funds are released is usually between 5 and 15 days but can be longer depending on the type of card and country of issue.
All credit cards will be subject to and must pass CHIP and PIN verification, cards without this facility will not be accepted. Unembossed cards and cards marked for 'Electronic use', are not accepted for pre-authorisations. Cards must be in the main driver’s name. Cash deposits/pre-authorisations are not accepted. Cheques are not acceptable. Pre-paid cards are not accepted, please check with your renting branch at the point of booking.
In most cases, each Green Motion location will accept most major credit cards including Visa and MasterCard and in some cases, American Express may be accepted.
In relation to debit cards (Visa/MasterCard), these are typically accepted for the payment of rentals, but unfortunately we cannot secure a deposit / pre-authorisation using a debit card and as such require a valid credit card for the pre-authorisation of the deposit. In addition we are unable to accept cash either for the payment of the rental or for the security deposit.
We would ask you to note that in the event that we are unable to guarantee funds relating to the security deposit on your credit card we will be unable to rent a vehicle to you.
Drivers aged 21 to 24 years old can only drive manual vehicles up to and including 1G for example a manual Peugeot 308 5 door hatch. Drivers aged 21 to 24 cannot drive any large or estate vehicles. Green Motion branches do not hold the pre-authorisation / deposit in our bank accounts. The pre-authorisation is an automatic bank process that blocks of the agreed amount held against the credit card presented by the issuing bank. The time taken by the issuing bank to release the pre-authorisation on the credit card varies immensely dependent on the bank and the country of issue. Typically, most pre-authorisations / deposits are released within 5 – 14 days from the return of the rental car.
In the event that you feel a pre-authorisation has not been released with the prescribed time frame, it will be necessary for you to make direct contact with the issuing bank, as Green Motion branches have no jurisdiction in this matter. However, you are welcome to contact us for an advise.
We try to provide the information to the best of our knowledge. The information might contain mistakes or errors, and it cannot represent Green Motion T&C's and Rental Agreement T&C's in legal aspect. Should you need further clarification please do not hesitate to contact us.
